The World Federation of Trade Unions representing 92 million workers in the 5 continents condemns the Indian government’s decision to move to privatise the defence industry set up in India by outsourcing their important projects to private corporate.
This decision comes in contrast with the policies and the declarations of the previous Defence Ministers. The World Federation of Trade Unions joins its voices with the trade union movement and the workers throughout India and their struggles against the deplorable decisions of the Government such as:
1) closing down the various Depots, and DGOs, and to dismantle the Army base workshops.
2) to shrink and dilute the role of the DGQA.
3) to reduce the strength of the Civilian employees in the MES and outsource more and more jobs to contractors.
4) to close down military farms.
After many struggles which were organized by different unions (in the sector of defence, undertaking, ordnance factories, defence labs etc.) in front of the Indian Parliament at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, for several days opposing the move of the Government of India, the All India Defence Employees Federation (AIDEF) is escalating the fight, and has been in relay hunger strike.
The WFTU supports the struggles and the fair demands of All India Defence Employees Federation (AIDEF) and its Four Hundred Thousand Employees all over the country. The militant and relentless struggles are the only yet powerful weapon of the working class and the international class-oriented trade union movement will always stand on the side of the workers who are fighting for their contemporary needs and rights until we win.
