The World Federation of Trade Unions representing more than 95 million workers in 130 countries, expresses its internationalist solidarity to the people of Afghanistan.
The continuing drought in Afghanistan is worsened due to the lack of precipitation in late 2017 and 2018. The food insecurity and water scarcity are increasing the already high malnutrition rates among children. The affected children are estimated to be more than 500.000 and more than 3 million people living in conditions of food insecurity.
The difficulties of the drought are added to the imperialist crimes, created by interventions and plans of the imperialist states in the country. The people of Afghanistan suffers from all the capitalistic countries which want to steal the wealth of the country and to turn Afghanistan in a military base for the satisfaction of their geostrategic interests. It has been undoubtedly proved that the imperialist plans in the area are opposed to the interests of the people of Afghanistan.
The inhuman situation which is imposed for years by imperialism, in combination with the drought, created terrible living conditions for the people of the country. It is even reported that at least 161 children have been sold over the last months by their parents because they are unable to pay their debts.
The World Federation of Trade Unions stand on the side of the popular strata of Afghanistan expressing its solidarity and demanding the termination of the foreign interventions in the country.
