On behalf of workers organised in the Trade Union International (TUI) of Energy which is part of a militant class oriented workers movement organized in 126 Countries under the banner of the World Federation of Trade Union (WFTU), we denounce the murders attack of the Honduran Army against the indigenous protesters at Rio Blanco which resulted to the tragic death of Tomas Garcia and the injury of others.
This shocking incident was the army’s response to the ongoing protests by the indigenous protesters who were protesting for more than 106 days to the harmful building of Agua Zarca hydroelectric dam.
As the TUI-Energy we are denouncing and still shocked of the killing of Tomas Garcia, who was a Lenca indigenous leader by Army.
This criminal reaction showed the role of the Army as a safeguard of the capitalist interests, and in this case the interests of the DESA and Sinohydro Companies, that want to build a dam on River Gualcaeque which will be negatively affects the communities living there.
We extend our support and solidarity to the ongoing struggles of the indigenous people of Rio Blanca to defend their rights.
