The World Federation of Trade Unions, representing 105 million workers in 133 countries, expresses its support and solidarity with the train drivers of the GdL Union in Germany, against Deutsche Bahn.
The workers of the company are on strike since last Wednesday, having as basic demand the improving of their working conditions and wages, and the reduction of their working hours from 38 to 35. The fulfillment of these just demands, will improve the conditions that the workers are called to work on, and is also in the interests of the citizens and their safety in such a key sector as railway transport. In this landscape, we reaffirm our support to the demand of the German workers, for the re-nationalization of the railways of the country.
At the same time, and following the developments, the WFTU strongly condemns any attempts from the side of the government to restrict the right of the workers to strike. The voice of the workers cannot be silenced, and their struggle cannot be restricted. We express our full solidarity in the struggle of the strikers in Germany and to their just demands!
