The WFTU on the occasion of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work expresses its strong condemnation for the serial “accidents” at the workplaces all over the world. Almost 6,000 people are injuring and losing their lives on a daily basis, they are not accidents, they are crimes. Those who lose their lives are the workers, the ordinary people who daily use degraded means of transport, work in unsuitable buildings that are not adequately maintained or meet the modern hygiene and safety standards and their income is insufficient to stay in modern and safe houses. In the vast majority, the industrial accidents are caused by the criminal negligence and the lack of health and safety protective measures at the workplaces.
There is no doubt that the employers and the owners of the industries and plants know very well about the lack of safety measures. They also know the dangers that exist in their enterprises because of the lack of the safety protective measures. According to this fact we can easily conclude that the “accidents” are nothing else than conscious murders.
The protection of the life of the working class is a main task of the trade union movement. Oriented by the resolution “platform 2016 – 2020” of the 17th World Trade Union Congress we demand the immediate implementation of adequate measures of health and safety that would actually protect the workers lives.
