The World Federation of Trade Unions, representing 92 million workers in the 5 continents, strongly denounces the Iberia’s new round of redundancies that aim to cut as much as 955 job positions.
This new round of redundancies is announced after other 2 rounds of mass layoffs over the last 4 years, during which 4700 workers lost their jobs. More specifically, 1.600 workers lost their jobs in February of 2014 and 3.100 layoffs took place a year earlier, in March of 2013.
According to the announcement, the layoffs would involve voluntary redundancies and early retirement plans. The Spanish airline company, which employed more than 20.000 workers in 2013, dismissed more than 25% of its employees in 4 years’ time.
Once more, it is the Iberia’s workers who pay the price for the reduction of the profits and competitiveness of the company. The WFTU expresses its solidarity to the Iberia’s employees and calls on them to defend their jobs as they did in 2013. The workers of Iberia and in every corner of the world have to take their present and future on their hands!
The international class oriented trade union movement will always stand on their side, supporting their struggles.
