The WFTU expresses its sincere condolences to the people of India and the popular strata of Kerala for the tragedy and damages caused by the disastrous floods that are affecting the area.
More than 350 citizens lost their life during the floods and incalculable damage in buildings and infrastructure has been inflicted. At the same time, thousands of people are feared to be trapped and others are struggling to survive, having lost their houses and belongings.
The World Federation of Trade Unions, representing 92 million workers in the 5 continents, stands in solidarity with the working class of India and calls for the implementation of adequate measures for the rescue of the trapped people. The necessary protection to the citizens is needed so as not to mourn more victims. Also, the WFTU demands the recovery of the flooded areas with financial support to the affected people.
The world class-oriented trade union movement would like to reaffirm its support and solidarity to the workers and the people of Kerala.
