The World Federation of Trade Unions on behalf of its more than 100 million workers in 132 countries expresses its sincere condolence to the relatives and colleagues of the 20 coal miners who lost their lives working to earn a livelihood for themselves and their families.
According to official information, the miners were trapped in a coal mine that collapsed due to a gas explosion on Tuesday in Afghanistan’s northern Samangan province.
The class-oriented trade union movement intensifies its struggle for the determination and implementation of health and safety measures in every workplace, for the protection workers’ health and live. No more workers’ life to be sacrificed for the profits. The WFTU denounces the reportedly lack of protective measures and demands independent investigation on the condition of the accident and punishment of the responsible.
