Storm Eta has unleashed torrential rains, and catastrophic landslides and flooding in Central America, killing scores of people, displacing more than 300,000, and turning city streets into raging torrents.
At least 50 people died in Guatemala, including 25 who were killed in a landslide in the village of Quejá, in Panama 5 people died, in Honduras 4, in Costa Rica 2 and in Nicaragua 2 according to governmental sources.
The workers and the popular strata are once again unprotected against the natural disasters and pay with their lives the cost of the lack of adequate protection measures in all the aspects of their lives.
The World Federation of Trade Union demands the support of the affected areas for the full and immediate restoration and compensation of the damages. At the same time the international class oriented trade union movement will continue its multifaceted struggles for the implementation of adequate protection measures in all aspects of life.
