The Fair Work Commission of Australia has ruled that the Sunday and public holiday penalty rates will be reduced for full-time and part-time workers in the hospitality, retail and fast-food industries.
The reduction of Sunday and public holiday penalty rates will directly and importantly affect the total income of tens of thousands of workers. This decision will cause the reduction of monthly wages to be reduced while they manage of many workers who already have difficulty in covering their daily costs. This is a clear and unconcealed attack on the living standards of thousands of workers in order to facilitate the wealth accumulation by the employers.
The employers celebrate for this decision with the pretext that they will be able to employ more weekend staff but the real reason is that they celebrate the reducing of the workforce cost which will cause the increase of the workers exploitation.
The World Federation of Trade Unions representing 92 million workers in the 5 continents demands the prompt withdraw of this anti-labor decision and calls the workers to defend their benefits, their interests and their living standards with massive, unite, militant and class oriented struggles.
