More than 10,000 public hospital nurses with the status of temporarily contracted state employees, threatened to resign after the rejection of their request to get permanent civil servant status from the cabinet.
The World Federation of Trade Unions classifies the public health as a necessary social right and demands public, free and adequate healthcare treatment and services to the people of Thailand with full access for all without barriers and exclusions. Therefore the resignation of thousands nurses from the public hospitals is a serious blow for the quality of public health of the Thailand people.
In addition, the right for stable and decent work for all workers, including the nurses and workers in the health sector, is non-negotiable.
The WFTU demands stable and decent work conditions for the workers in health sector and high quality public healthcare treatment and services.
