More than 200000 teachers are striking since 12 July, 2021, demanding an increase in salaries, permanent solutions in salary and service issues that affecting teachers, principals, and non-academic employees, as well as the withdrawal of Kotelawala National Defense University Bill that undermines the Free Education System in Sri Lanka.
The World Federation of Trade Unions on behalf of its more than 105 million workers from 133 countries of the 5 continents extents its solidarity with the strike and denounces the rejection of the just demands by the government after 23 days of strike and several rounds of discussions.
The class-oriented trade union movement firmly stands on the side of the struggling teachers and workers and supports their struggle until the satisfaction of their demands and the touchable and effective support of the education system in the country.
