The World Federation of Trade Unions, the militant voice of more than 100 million workers in 132 countries, expresses its support and internationalist solidarity with the teachers in Sri Lanka who went on a countrywide strike on February 26th, 2020. The impressive participation of 95% of the teachers reveals the total agreement and unifying of all teachers with the fair demands that are expressed by the trade union movement.
We are standing with the teachers and their fair demands for full adequate funding of education from the government budget and the creation of the necessary conditions for the seamless and uninterrupted fulfillment of the social duty of the teachers. The international class-oriented calls the working class of Sri Lanka to actively support the teachers’ struggle for the defense of the right of education in favor of the whole society.
