The WFTU expresses its sincere condolences for the families and friends of the people who lost their lives by mudslides and floods due storm and by the fire in a shopping mall which are happened the last days in Philippines.
In particular a tropical storm in the Philippines has triggered mudslides and floods which caused more than 200 dead people with many others reported missing while a fire in a shopping mall in the Philippines, killed at least 37 people, most of them workers at a call centre.
Once again the working class and the popular strata pay with their lives the cost of the lack of adequate protection measures in all the aspects of their lives as is always the case with thunderstorms, typhoons, earthquakes, fires etc.
The World Federation of Trade Unions, representing more than 92 million workers, declares that the satisfactory ad safe living and working conditions are not negotiable and we demand the implementation of immediate and adequate measures to ensure that no other lives will be lost because of labor accident or natural disasters.
