Europe’s biggest multinational aerospace corporation, Airbus, revealed its plans to shed around 15,000 jobs. Airbus aims to cut at least 5,000 jobs in France, 5,100 in Germany, 900 in Spain, 1,700 in the UK and 1,300 elsewhere.
Once again the companies in the air transports and aviation sector are trying to shift the burden of the recession on the shoulders of workers. The companies in the sectors say that their future was at stake due to the coronavirus pandemic. The truth is that they have been earning countless profits for decades and they are subsidized with billions of euro by governments. The only future that is permanently jeopardized is the future of their workers who are barely covering the basic daily expenditures of their families and the layoffs will condemn them to poverty.
Enough is enough with the dismissal plans and the violation of workers’ rights by Airbus, British Airways, Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Emirates Airlines, Qantas Airways Ltd, Malaysian Airlines, and other sectors’ companies The workers did not share the profits they will not pay for the recession.
The World Federation of Trade Unions, representing 105 million workers in 130 countries of the five continents, strongly and fully condemn the announced dismissals and joins its voice with the workers of Airbus and the other companies of the aviation sector, supporting the withdrawal of the layoffs and their fair demands.
