The World Federation of Trade Unions expresses its sincere condolences and internationalist solidarity with the people of Afghanistan who are mourning hundreds of dead after a magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit eastern Afghanistan about 44km from the south-eastern city of Khost on Wednesday morning.
According to information, at least 920 people lost their lives, 600 were injured and significant damages were caused. Our thoughts are with the affected people and the relatives of the victims.
It is once again proven that always ordinary people are left unprotected from natural phenomena due to the very poor infrastructure and the lack of efficient protective measures. The international class-oriented trade union movement intensifies its struggles for adequate protective measures in all aspects of people’s lives all over the world.
