Dear colleagues,
The International WFTU Campaign for the release of all Palestinian child prisoners from Israeli prisons, launched in January 2021, has been actively supported by militant trade unions in every corner of the planet and every day more and more militant actions are taking place.
The WFTU and its members and friends all over the globe, stand by the side of the workers and People of Palestine and demand the release of more than 155 Palestinian child prisoners currently held in Israeli jails and the release of more 4.500 Palestinian political prisoners. The world class-oriented trade union movement stably supports the establishment of the independent Palestinian State on the 1967 border and with East Jerusalem as its capital and the end of the Israeli settlements and occupation.
Since 2000, an estimated 12.000 Palestinian children have been arrested by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank and held in Israeli military prisons, many of them as young as 12 years old. In some cases, even children aged 6 and 7 have been imprisoned by the army. Israel brings before the military courts 500-700 Palestinian children each year, while on average, 200-300 children are held in Israeli prisons per month.
The Palestinian workers and children are being arrested because they oppose the Israeli occupation of their territories and the criminal policy of Israel, which daily subjects them to restrictions and risks.
Palestinian prisoners face violence and intimidation, administrative detention, solitary confinement, neglect of their health and no vaccination during the COVID-19 Pandemic and we can all imagine what effects such detention conditions have on mental and physical health of a child. Israel must immediately stop these criminal actions and violations of international conventions on the rights of the child.
Continuing the Campaign in solidarity with Palestinian child prisoners, we cordially invite you to the:
