The World Federation of Trade Unions strongly condemns the imposed sanctions against various countries that hampers the worldwide effort of containment and effective address of the coronavirus.
The sanctions that were imposed and are still implemented, as one means for the promotion of the geostrategic goals of the dominant states and ensuring the maximum possible monopolies’ profits, cause irreparable problems to ordinary people of the countries facing the sanctions. From the outset, the class-oriented trade union movement has revealed the real nature and the consequences of the sanction-policies, regardless of the spurious pretexts that the imperialist states use to justify the application of these sanctions.
The continuation of sanctions against states affected by the coronavirus is an unacceptable murderous practice against the whole humanity that is immeasurably harms the efforts to counter the pandemic. The case of Iran is characteristic inasmuch the US sanctions continue since they have already caused around $200 billion in direct damages to the economy of a country with more than 20,000 confirmed cases and at least 1,500 deaths.
The World Federation of Trade Unions, on behalf of its more than 100 million members in 132 countries of the world demand for an end to the murderous sanctions that, in the midst of the pandemic, constitute a crime against humanity and put global health at further risk.
