The WFTU expresses its solidarity to the migrants and refugees from Syria and the other countries of the Middle East, North Africa and Asia. We support their demands for dignified humane conditions and respect of their rights.
The measures decided by the EU Summit yesterday contain serious dangers for rise of the dead migrants in the EU borders and the entrapment of many of the migrants and refugees in countries like Greece, Italy, Spain etc. despite their will, with higher costs and more risky transfers from the illegal smugglers who exploit them.
The calls of the European Union for the ending of the war in Syria as well as the alleged “sympathy” to the problems of the refugees can only be explained us hypocrisy. USA, NATO, the European Union and their allies in the framework of the interimperialist competitions form the developments in the Middle East, North Africa and Asia, organize imperialist invasions and interventions, undermine and block the right of the people to decide upon themselves for their present and future and force millions in migration aiming for the control of the wealthproducing resources and the transportation paths. These policies of the imperialists cultivate racism, neo-fascism and xenophobia.
At the same time, besides the drama of the travel from the origin countries to their countries of destination, the European Union prepares the next day for the refugees and the migrants as well. Meaning, their exploitation as extremely cheap and flexible labour force and as level for the further downgrading of the labour rights of all workers.
Based on this the WFTU calls for:
- The abolishment of the Dublin and the Schengen Treaty, the Frontex and all repressive mechanisms.
- Stop the measures of the European Union for the repression in the borders.
- End now the imperialist interventions of EU-USA-NATO.
- Direct transfer of the refugees from the islands and the entry points to the countries of their final destination.-
- Increase of the personnel and the infrastructure for the rescue, the record-identification, the housing, feeding, medical care and the safe transfer of the people.
- Creation of dignified centers of welcoming and hospitality
