The International Coordinating Committee of the Global March to Gaza had organized a
march for today, June 12, 2025, following the required protocols and requesting the
corresponding permits. Approximately 3,000 activists from around 50 countries were
summoned to Cairo to reach the Egyptian border with Israel, at the site of the blockade of
humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territory of Gaza, to lobby for the entry of trucks carrying
food and essential goods to Palestine.
During the two months prior to the march, the organizers collaborated directly with the
Egyptian embassies in Spain, Switzerland, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland,
Italy, Turkey, Greece, Portugal, Norway, the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands,
and other countries, as well as with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant local
authorities, to formally request permission and ensure transparency at every stage.
However, since Wednesday, June 11, Egyptian authorities have been raiding hotels and
detaining activists from various countries at the airport: some 30 Spaniards, some 20 French,
40 Algerians, Tunisians, Norwegians, and Swiss, among others. More than 100 people have
been deported, as well as another 100 detained.
This was a peaceful international initiative and demonstration in the name of humanity, to stop
the blockade and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. It is a demonstration of international
solidarity against hunger, bombing, and genocide, which the governments of the capitalist
world remain complicit in silence about.
Among those detained is our comrade Teresa Pantoja, a Spanish member of the leadership of
the International Union of Pensioners and Retirees of the World Federation of Trade Unions.
She was detained and stripped of her passport and cell phone. On behalf of the millions of
pensioners and retirees around the world who belong to our organization and in the name of
humanity:
We stand in solidarity with and support all the activists around the world who are participating
in the march; and we demand:
– The immediate release of detained activists of all nationalities
– A halt to deportations and the planned March to proceed
– An end to collaboration with imperialist genocide.
