Thousands and thousands of workers, unemployed, pensioners and young people, throughout the country, demonstrated, on February 1, 2014 – National Day of Action against exploitation and impoverishment that the PSD/CDS Government has caused in Portugal. They expressed their indignation against the right-wing policy that this Government insistently applies with one goal – more and more austerity.
From North to South, the squares and the streets of major district capitals echoed the living voice of the workers who demanded the resignation of the government and early elections. They demanded collective bargaining in companies and sectors, wage increases and a rise of the national minimum wage, at least one euro per day, thereby improving purchasing power, boost the economy and creating jobs. The demonstrators also expressed willingness to continue their struggle during the month of February in companies and in the streets and approved to continue the struggle in all sectors and regions mobilizing again during the week from 8-15 of March.
