The World Federation of Trade Unions, which is the militant voice of 95 million members in 130 countries all over the globe, conveys its internationalist solidarity to the working class and the ordinary people of Tanzania, after the sinking of the ferry boat in the lake Victoria that has cost the life of more than 200 persons until now.
The ferry boat sank last Thursday after leaving Ukerewe island, having on board four times more passengers than its normal capacity, according to reports.
We firmly condemn such actions in the interest of maximum profitability that totally neglect the security measures and shatter every notion of respect for the ordinary people’s lives. We demand all responsible persons to be held accountable as well as full compensation and support measures for all the affected people.
We express our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
