On 26th October, the Cuban government will table a new resolution at the General Assembly of the United Nations for the lifting of the unacceptable blockade that the US has imposed against the country since 1962, in violation of every principle of International Law and the right of the Cuban people to determine its own future. The UN General Assembly for 25 consecutive years has been adopting by a large majority a resolutions calling on the US Government to end the manifold blockade of Cuba.
PEO on the occasion of the vote in the UN General Assembly on the resolution to condemn the blockade of Cuba by the US reaffirms its solidarity with the heroic Cuban people and expresses its support of the working people of Cyprus with their struggle to end the blockade.
We demand from the United States Government to end immediately the economic, trade and financial blockade against Cuba and to respect the right of the Cuban people to determine its future without any foreign interference.
We expect the government of the Republic of Cyprus to act based on principles and support the just demand of the Cuban people for the termination of the embargo and for the respect of its independence and international legality.
We are linked with the Cuban people by our strong and historic ties, given that Cuba was always on the side of Cyprus, even in our most difficult moments it supported and supports the struggle of the Cypriot people.
