The World Federation of Trade Unions, on behalf of its 97 million members in 130 countries of the 5 continents, would like to extend its condolences to the families who lost their loved ones during heavy rains and floods in the eastern coast of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa earlier this week.
We know that in situations like this it is always the poor and the working class that are mostly affected by such unfortunate events. The WFTU expresses its sadness and sorrow with the working class and people of South Africa who now find themselves displaced, without food, clothes and shelter.
The international class-oriented trade union movement would like to pledge a message of support and solidarity with the South Africans and in particular the residents and families of those affected.
The WFTU is deeply saddened by the situation and demands for the lives of the people affected to be back to normal so that they can start work on rebuilding homes and their lives.
