The WFTU, based on a related decision of the recent 18th World Trade Union Congress, reaffirms an earlier decision to re-establish an International Day of Trade Union Action for Peace on September 1st, which is the day considered the start of the Second World War with the attack of Nazi Germany on Poland.
This year’s International Action Day is of particular importance, bearing in mind the enormous dangers and threats to world peace, which have dangerously escalated after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The culmination of the dangers and threats to world peace is a result of the imperialist geopolitical plans, especially the ones of USA-NATO. The stark reality is that the world is facing a phase of extreme intensification of political, economic, and military rivalries, aiming at controlling and exploiting the economic resources of our planet.
The WFTU Secretariat calls upon the class-oriented trade unions movement to organize militant activities on September 1st, on the occasion of the International Trade Unions Action Day for Peace. Detailed announcement and relevant poster and video will be published by August 25th, 2022 and the WFTU affiliates are kindly requested to use these materials as well as the WFTU banners and flags during the preparation and the realization of their activities. Photos and videos of the International Action Day activities should be sent to the WFTU headquarters.
