Today in the conditions created by the world economic crisis as a result of the capitalistic globalisation and the neo-liberal policies, the position of working people all over the world is deteriorating.
The capitalist system and big capital are seeking to put the burden of the capitalist crisis on the backs of the working people.
In Europe too, the peoples and workers are suffering from the consequences and impact of the crisis of capitalism.
The insistence on the promotion and implementation of economic measures against working people, which are aiming at the deregulation of labour relations, the increase in the retirement age and cuts on social expenditure are exacerbating the pressure on working people and promoting the interests of big capital.
Now is the time for all the working people to react and resist the neo-liberal policies, the neo-liberal attack on workers’ rights and gains.
At the same time, WFTU remains firmly dedicated to the need to solve the Cyprus problem within the framework of a bi-communal, bi-zonal federation with political equality of both communities as provided in the relevant resolutions of the UN, the High Level Agreements, for establishing a state with one sovereignty, one citizenship and one international personality.
We salute the general strike of the Turkish Cypriot working people on 28th of January and express on behalf of the World Federation of Trade Unions –WFTU our unwavering solidarity and support to your mobilisations and we will always be on your side, wishing every success to the general strike.
