The working youth committee of the World Federation of Trade Unions, which represents more than 92 million members in every country of the world, denounces the layoffs announced by the multinational group of retail “Carrefour” in France and in Belgium. The group is planning 2400 layoffs in France and 1200 in Belgium.
Carrefour, whose profits are created by the work of thousands of workers across the world, considers them to be a “cost” and throws them out, in a background of competition between large groups in the retail sector.
It is worth mentioning that the layoffs in France are going to be implemented using the reactionary reform of president Macron on the so-called “voluntary departures”. A reform that is implementing EU’s policies on the flexibility in the job market and that is attacking our rights.
WFTU’s working youth committee, which is currently running its international campaign “Youth with rights”, calls the workers of Carrefour in France, in Belgium and all over the world, especially the young workers, to organize into their unions and respond decisively to the plans of the company so that no layoff takes place and that they can work with rights.
The committee calls young workers throughout the world to express through their unions their solidarity to the struggle of the workers in Carrefour.
