On November, 8 a strike began in Latvian NORDEKA bus company. This largest transport company many years pays beggarly salaries to the drivers. A middle salary in NORDEKA makes 1,3 euros per hour. At the same time the proprietor of company, Mr. Juris Savickis, sponsoring the ice hockey club DINAMO.
LABA trade union organized a strike, but a company contested it through Central District court of Riga. This trial passed on November, 7. Raimonds Gailis (leader of LABA trade union), Iveta Ručkanova (lawyer of LABA trade union) and Stanislavs Bogdanovs (driver-activist) defended the workers struggle in court. The court settled thr strike. Then a company hired a personnel not wishing to strike. The voyages of busses were not anniented. But thr strike did not cease.
The actions of LABA trade union create an important precedent in the fight of workers of Latvia for their rights.
