LAB, a trade union from the Basque Country, expresses their total support and class solidarity with the construction workers of Cyprus, who are carrying out an indefinite strike in defence of their labour, trade union and salary rights, as well as the rights of immigrant workers.
The construction workers of Cyprus, through an indefinite strike, denounce the total stubbornness and intransigency of management which refuses to negotiate a collective agreement with minimally dignified conditions.
They are trying to go back decades in the rights for the workers in the construction sector, and for that they especially use immigrant workers, who are condemned to work for miserable wages and exploitive conditions.
This situation is very similar to what workers in the sector of construction are suffering in other European countries, including our own, the Basque Country.
For that, this struggle of the construction workers of Cyprus is in defence of all the workers, Cypriots and immigrants, who are trying to defend the rights of the entire working class.
Also, it is added to the other strikes and struggles that are taking place in Greece and in all of Europe on the part of the most conscientious sectors of the working class, in defence of our class rights and against the policies of the Troika and of management who are trying to enrich themselves even more at the cost of this situation of capitalist crisis, and by that condemning the working class to poverty.
“From LAB we reiterate our support to the striking construction workers of Cyprus and to the entire working class of our brother country. We send you all of our strength and support.”
