Mobilization day of migrant workers in Ragusa: not to forget Dauda, against labor exploitation, immediate regulation of everyone and abolition of Bossi Fini
More than 300 migrant workers, organized by the Social Federation of Ragusa, went on strike today, leaving tomatoes, courgettes, eggplants on the ground and they did it for two reasons: to prevent the silence from falling on the Dauda case, to demand an acceleration of the practices of issuing residence permits, which is essential today To get citizenship and a dignified employment contract.
The morning started in front of the Immigration Office of the Questura of Ragusa, where the three hundred protesters who arrived in a train from the transformed band were joined by hundreds of workers in line since the early hours of the morning.
A delegation was received by a director of the Immigration Office to whom they were represented the difficulties caused by the delay in carrying out the practices, difficulties that we find in every city today and are solely the responsibility of the current Government, but also of the previous governments. USB is applying pressure in every prefecture to identify ways to speed up practices, with the awareness that only the abolition of Bossi Fini and the regularization of all immigrant workers can solve the growing crisis ahead of these cases.
We are continuing to trust the efforts of the Immigration Offices, but we know that the situation is explosive and what explodes cannot be contained.
Later we moved to the Ragusa Court, where we had a meeting with the President of the Court.
Respect for human dignity and every law of the State have been reiterated during the meeting, in this context we cannot accept that Dauda’s disappearance will end in oblivion, and we will do everything we can to prevent it.
USB undertakes to continue keeping the spotlight on the case, because Dauda, as everyone knows, has paid the complaint of a working condition outside of all criteria of safety, of rule, of respect for the person.
With the delegations of the federations from Catania and Palermo it has been decided to relaunch the political initiative, interested in the world of Sicilian politics in the coming weeks, main steps to not lose the attention on the case will be to continue the mobilization, to strive to allow Dauda’s wife, to be left alone with Two children in Ivory Coast, to have the chance to become an offended party in the proceedings.
Work security, regular contracts and fair wages are a goal strictly linked to the regularization of foreign workers, therefore to the Abolition of Bossi Fini.
