USB joins the mobilization of the university world. No to scientific cooperation with the Israeli government. Stop the genocide !
The dramatic situation in the Gaza strip has now reached a level that requires a decisive and firm stance, which we believe cannot be avoided.
The mobilization that many Italian Athens are going through has been finalized, in addition to the request of a general to ceasefire in order to put an end to the ongoing genocide, also to the request to terminate the scientific cooperation relations between universities and Italian and Israeli research centres oriented to development of projects that could give way to products usable also in military field. Among these, specifically, are those that can be referred to the MAECI tender (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation).
In the face of a persistent violation of the most basic human rights, in disregard of international law by Israeli government authorities, USB Public Employment has taken the decision to declare a national strike day on April 9, 2024
The strike started at 12:00 at the end of shift for the technical administrative librarian staff, CEL and the teaching staff of the Universities, while it will be for the whole day for the staff of the Universiades of Rome. Mobilization is necessary to demand the withdrawal of the tender and, more generally, for a decisive position on the suspension of industrial, scientific and technological cooperation between universities and Italian and Israeli research centres in all cases where it is clear military attempts .
This is also due to active support for the mobilization ongoing by the student collectives and all those university staff, teaching and non-teaching, promoting the “Letter to MAECI for the suspension of the Industrial, Scientific and Technological Cooperation Agreement between Italy and Israel due to dual risk use and violation of international and humanitarian law”.
