Strike – station! Yesterday’s mass strike wave that embraced the whole country, all sectors, thousands of workplaces was an important point, a great step forward. A strike that united on the street all the fronts of the last few months, taking the baton from the builders, teachers, health workers, dockers and matirime workers, metalworkers, hotel workers etc
From the massive anti-imperialist rallies in honor of the Polytechnic Uprising on November 17 across the country, with workers and youth holding two huge mobilisations in three days.
And now this baton is being passed on in an even more coordinated way, with new rich experience, with more unions joining the fire of battle in the next big militant mobilisations:
For collective bargaining and wage increases, against the new abomination brought by the government with the EU “algorithm” of permanent compression of incomes.
For health and education, for protection measures in the workplace.
To free the country from the imperialist war slaughterhouse, which is becoming even more brutal these days. All unions carried and waved the flags of Palestine!
A strike in which promising elements stood out, which is up to the workers and their unions to develop even further.
The massive participation from a range of sectors and workplaces stood out. Many more workers who yesterday did not “punch a card” but took to the streets. The new unions that are joining the fire of battle, the struggle committees that are being formed and taking over the organisation of the struggle.
What stands out is the confrontation with the heart of the strategy of the bourgeoisie, a confrontation that is concentrated in the slogan of the big strike rallies throughout the country: “Give money for wages, health and education, out of the slaughterhouses of war Greece”.
In Athens, with the strikers coming downtown after having fought the battle of the strike’s success at the gates of the workplaces the night before, a huge strike rally was organized. But also, all over Greece successful strike rallies took place with very massive demonstrations in Thessaloniki, Patras, Crete, Giannena and others.
PAME stated for the Strike:
PAME salutes the tremendous participation of the working people in the strike rallies in Athens and in more than 70 cities all over the country.
Within three days after the magnificent rally in honour of the Polytechnic, Athens was again flooded. Today’s strike proved that the movement to confront the anti-people’s policies is growing stronger. The real workers’ and people’s opposition is here.
The large participation in the strike and the strike rallies confirm the great opposition of the workers against the anti-people’s policy of the government and the business groups. Against the involvement of the country in the imperialist wars especially in this period where there is the dangerous escalation of the NATO-Russia war.
The strike is an escalation point to continue the struggle for collective agreements and wage increases, for health and education not to be an expensive commodity, for the people’s homes to be saved from the banks and the crows.
It is true that another degenerative show of the kind that the social democratic parties have got us used to in recent months has not gone unnoticed. This time their trade union leaderships in GSEE and ADEDY gave a “show” in Klathmonos Square with two platforms glued to each other, a podium with wheels arguing over who gets it and the party blocs of PASOK, SYRIZA and the New Left as spectators. The strikers were, of course, elsewhere, at the grand rallies of their unions.
If the parties that voted for three memoranda and hundreds of implementing laws think that we are in the land of the lotus eaters, they are deeply mistaken.
We continue the struggle with the slogan “Give money for wages, health and education, Greece out of the slaughterhouses of war.
