Continuing his official visit to Cuba, WFTU General Secretary George Mavrikos, accompanied by the CTC General Secretary Ulises Guilarte de Nascimiento visited the province of Villa Clara on November 16th 2014. The WFTU General Secretary visited and paid tribute to the monument dedicated to the great internationalist guerilla fighter Ernesto “Che” Guevara. The delegation held bilateral meeting with the trade union committee of Villa Clara and local authorities and visited the agricultural research center “Instituto de Viandas Tropicales” (INIVIT). The institute provides the fundamental scientific basis and makes ground breaking research that contributes to Cuba’s agricultural production and food sovereignty.
On November 17th 2014 the WFTU General Secretary was the key note speaker in a major conference, held in CTC’s Headquarters. The conference was attended by 250 cadres of CTC Cuba and among them was the historic leader of the CTC Pedro Alcántara Ross Leal. The General Secretary informed the Cuban trade unionists about the current activities of the WFTU, its main goals and the activities of solidarity with the Cuban Revolution that WFTU plans to hold. During the event the CTC General Secretary Ulises Guilarte awarded the conmemorative seal of the 75th anniversary of the CTC to the WFTU General Secretary.
Later that day, the delegation met with Salvador Valdés Mesa, Vice President of the State Council of Cuba, at the HQ of the Communist Party of Cuba. The program concluded with the visit to the WFTU Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean in Havana.
