Dear comrades
the Haitian people are suffering from the consequences of a major disaster caused by the earthquake of 7.3 Richter.
The poor cardboard houses collapsed.
Tens of thousands are the deads so far. The number of dead and wounded people continuously grows and the alives are endangered from hunger and diseases. Today’s disaster is not a simple natural phenomenon, it has deepen roots and the causes are social.
The neighboring countries are already trying to help. The assistance of the socialist Cuba is really touching with hundreds of doctors and nurses to build and operating five hospitals in makeshift housing.
The USA sent 10,000 soldiers (!!) to occupy the airport and the coasts of the country!! Even in these moments the imperialists do not stop to prove how cold-blooded they are. The European Union and Canada and others are also moving on the same logic about who will be controlling Haiti at political and military level in the present and future.. Those responsible for the poverty in Haiti are pretending again.
The World Federation of Trade Unions from the very first moment has called upon all trade unions around the world to be activated.
Today facing the scale of the disaster and the needs for the poor and proud people of Haiti we begin a campaign of fundraising.
We call upon all national and sectoral organizations to contribute with any amount they can and to express practically their internationalism and solidarity. Everyone should give assistance to the people of Haiti.
