Following the developments with the increasing state violence and repression in Bangladesh, and based on the call of the WFTU to support the people struggling for democracy, various Organisations from all over the world have condemned the brutal actions and expressed their solidarity with the struggling people and the student movement of the country.
See below the message of comrade Mesbahuddin Ahmed, member of the Presidential Council of the WFTU, calling for solidarity action:
«Dear comrades,
Thank you for the WFTU’s statement regarding the prevailing situation in Bangladesh.
We urge an immediate halt to the attacks on protesters and the arbitrary arrests of individuals, including those taken from their homes and falsely charged with various offenses. Disturbingly, there have been instances where individuals who have not been in the country for months are being implicated in violent cases.
Rather than addressing the underlying issues and restoring normalcy, the government seems to be opting for further oppression. The imposition of curfews severely affects poor individuals, daily wage earners, and workers, placing them in a dire situation. Additionally, the blockage of internet access exacerbates this grave situation.
We encourage WFTU affiliates to issue similar statements and communicate them to the Bangladesh Embassy in their respective countries.
With fraternal greetings
Mesbahuddin Ahmed
