George Mavrikos celebrated May Day with the people and the working class of Belarus. During the activities of his program, he addressed numerous trade unionists attending the FTUB Trade Union Meeting. Read here his message:
“Dear comrades,
You all belong to this the beautiful country of Belarus, a heroic country in the struggle against imperialism, against fascism!
We are here today to express on behalf of the World Federation of Trade Unions our solidarity and internationalism towards the working class of Belarus and your people. To openly say, loud and clear that we join our voices with you.
We are here today, on May Day 2014 to honor together with you the 110 years of FTUB.
With FTUB, with its leadership, with colleague Leonid Kozik we are true brothers. We were together yesterday, we are together today, we will be together tomorrow.
For the benefit of the working people.
For the benefit of the Trade Union Movement.
For the benefit of the International Class-oriented Movement.
Dear brothers and sisters,
Dear comrades,
Today, from Minsk, we demand the end of the discriminations against Belarus. We demand the end of the discriminations against the people of Belarus. No international Organization has the right to intervene in the internal affairs of an independent country.
On the contrary, every International Organization has the obligation to respect the independence and the dignity of each country.
We, the World Federation of Trade Unions having today in our ranks about 90 million workers from 126 countries, we have committed to the consistent democratic principle that each people has to decide by themselves for their present and future. They have to decide by themselves for their course and for their leadership.
This consistent, democratic principle is being violated today by the European Union (EU). The World Federation of Trade Unions, our members from the five continents we demand the end of the external interventions, the discriminations and the slanders against Belarus.
Dear comrades from Belarus,
Dear brother Leonid Kozik, President of FTUB,
We commit ourselves openly, clearly and honestly that we will continue to be with you. Together with FTUB, together with the working class of Belarus.
Comrades workers of Belarus,
Here in front of you this International day of struggle we promise to you to continue the struggle against imperialism, against the capitalist barbarity. We will continue the struggle until the final victory. For a world without exploitation of human by human.
Long live May Day 2014.
Long live Internationalism
I salute you,”
