“Workers of the world unite you have nothing to lose but your chains”
The World Federation of Trade Unions [WFTU] Trade Union International Public Services and Allied [TUI PS & A] joined millions of workers of WFTU through a virtual platform on the 1 March 2021 in solidarity with workers and the people of Venezuela in denouncing the illegal economic war that is being waged by the United State of America, the European Union, Canada and Great Britain.
The conference was addressed by the President and General Secretary of WFTU comrade Mzwandile Michael Makwayiba and George Mavrikos respectively.
TUI-PS&A was represented by the president Artur Sequeira who gave the input on behalf of public services workers around the world. Our vice president from Italy comrade Cinzia della Porta and Finance control committee member comrade Michalis Archontidis from Cyprus also gave inputs to the conference.
The conference condemned the genocidal actions by the US and its allies in Europe and North America and reiterated the solidarity and support of the class oriented World Federation of Trade Unions with the people of Venezuela in resisting the US-led imperialist onslaught, desperately directed at the progressive Bolivarian social and economic policies that are meant to benefit the working class and the poor.
The following outcomes were derived from the conference for workers to implement as actions:
- Develop memorandums of demands to be submitted at offices, embassies and consulates of USA, EU and UN.
- Include the solidarity activities with Venezuela in all May Day celebrations, by use of posters, banners and other communique.
- TUIs to continue with solidarity activities with their different affiliates in all regions.
