The World Federation of Trade Unions denounces the working conditions extant in the LARCO plant in Greece. The local trade union of Welders – craftsmen-workers and Metal Workers in the Prefecture of Fthiotida is going on strike tomorrow, 29th of August 2017, denouncing the harsh and dangerous working conditions that prevail, modern contract slavery, the lack of essential security measures, uninsured and unpaid work, the starvation wages and the violation of labor rights.
Unfortunately, yesterday, 27th of August, while the trade union was preparing its strike, a worker was seriously injured in a new work accident, as he was burned, working in the kiln. The seriousness and the gravity of the trade union’s denouncements and the necessity of implementation of the workers demands is confirmed by reality itself in the harshest possible way. We wish a quick and full recovery to our injured colleague who must to be the last victim of the lack of health and safety at the workplaces.
The workers’ struggles in every factory and region of the world are struggles of the world working class as a whole. The WFTU, the militant voice of 92 million workers in the 5 continents strongly supports the LARCO workers and their fair demands and struggle. The international class-oriented trade union movement expresses its solidarity with the All-Workers Militant Front and the Greek working class.
