The World Federation of Trade Union strongly condemns the announcement of the Nissan plans to dismiss12500 workers globally over the next 3 years. The pretext of the dismissal, once again, is the reducing of the multinational’s profits in regard to the ones it was obtaining the previous years.
While the company is trying to rein in consequences from the corruption charges against its ex CEO, it maintains its profit forecast of 230 billion yen for the year ending March 2020, despite the comparative reducing of its profitability.
On the other side of the river, the workers of Nissan was always exploited by the multinational, creating countless profits and earning peanuts. The workers did not take part of the 2018 profits or of the profits of 2017 or of any other year. The company which did not reward its workers for the recorded increasing of its profitability in the past now chose to make them pay the price for the reducing of its profitability.
The WFTU and the international class-oriented trade union movement, representing more than 97 million workers in 130 countries, denounce the unacceptable decision of Nissan and express their internationalist and class solidarity with its workers in every country. We demand the cancelation of the planned dismissals without exemptions or exceptions.
We will not pay for their crisis.
