The World Federation of Trade Union, the oldest and only class-oriented international trade union organization that joins together more than 100 million workers in 132 countries of the 5 continents, expresses its solidarity with the people and working class of the Philippines and denounce authoritarianism and the violation of human rights from the Philippines police with the blessing of the political leadership of the country.
The World Federation of Trade Unions strongly condemns the violation of human rights, the abuse, excessive violence, and killings in cold blood that are taking place during the lockdown measures in the name of the people’s protection. We demand an independent investigation of all reports of abuse, liability for the police operation, as well as the immediate and unconditional end of the violation of human rights. We will not allow the targeting, attack, and elimination of human rights democratic and trade union freedoms and workers’ labor achievements with the pretext of COVID-19 during or after the pandemic.
In view of the coming International Workers Day, the members and friends of the WFTU all over the world militantly join their voice with the working class of the Philippines for the protection of their rights and health and for public and free healthcare for all.
