The World Federation of Trade Unions follows the developments in Algeria, expresses its solidarity with the people who struggle for their social and labour rights and denounces the state violence that resulted in two deaths and hundreds of injured people.
The recent demonstrations are not only an outburst but an expression of the anger and the indignation of the popular strata against the social injustice taking place in Algeria, a country which is rich in resources of petroleum and natural gas but that does not change the tragic reality of the unemployment and the high prices of milk, sugar and flour that have risen to the point of becoming unbearable for the poor households.
The World Federation of Trade Union supports the demands of the poor population of Algeria for a stable job, a decent salary, low prices on the daily essentials etc. The organization of the people in class-oriented trade unions and mass organizations can help in a way of organizing the struggle against the capital and its governments.
The spontaneousness has to become conscious struggle for our social and labour rights against the policy of the bourgeouasie and its governments that becomes more hostile and barbaric on the occasion of the world economic crisis.
