The World Federation of Trade Unions, which brings together 105 million workers in the length and breadth of the globe, expresses its sincere condolences to the families, relatives, and friends of the 12 workers who lost their lives due to the new occupational accident that took place in western India.
The new accident occurred when part of a chemical warehouse of a cotton factory in the Gujarat state collapsed following a powerful blast. Once again the working class of India mourns its children who were killed fighting to earn their livelihood working in unsafe and miserable conditions.
Despite the continuing deathly accidents the bourgeois and the Indian government refuse to ensure the health and safety in the workplaces as they consider the protective measures as unnecessary expenditures, and treat the workers as expendables productive force. The WFTU condemns the crime that consciously and continually occurs against the working class. We join our voice the class-oriented trade unions of India and we call upon the workers, poor farmers, and the popular strata of India to massively participate in the nationwide strike on November 26, 2020, demanding – among others – safe and dignified working conditions for all.
