The WFTU representing 92 million workers in 126 countries around the world expresses its sorrow for the death of at least 10 people which are known to have died and 121 rescued on Saturday April 30th in Huruma neighbourhood, a poor district on the outskirts of Nairobi .
Heavy rainfall caused the collapse but it’s known that the high demand for housing in Nairobi has led some property developers bypassing building regulations to reduce costs and increase profits.
The WFTU expresses its condolences to the families of the victims and extends its solidarity to the Kenyan Trade Union Movement in their struggle for better working and living conditions and and higher health and safety standards.
