The World Federation of Trade Unions, representing 92 million workers in the 5 continents, expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of our colleague, Mr. Pradeep who lost his life at the Bogala graphite mines on 28th of January. Also we are extending our solidarity to our comrades of Inter Company Employees Union of Sri Lanka for the loss of their member.
One more worker dies for the bloodstained profits of the bourgeois class. Not only did the company plan its production strategies without adequate protection measures, but also there were some incidents where the employees who were unwilling to follow this method were fired by the company.
The WFTU considers the dangerous and miserable conditions at the workplaces as a very crucial matter, informing and calling the workers to struggle decisively, demanding the implementation of safe, healthy and descent working conditions. We also demand the independent investigation of the responsibilities concerning the death and the compensation of the Pradeep’s family under the prevailing law of the country.
