In the framework of celebrating October 3 and the 75th anniversary of the WFTU an important virtual meeting of women trade unionists from the Asia and Pacific Region on the topic of “Women empowerment, the role of women in trade unions, the challenges in the times of COVID-19” was held September 30th, 2020 with much success.
George Mavrikos, WFTU General Secretary and C.H. Venkatachalam, Head of the WFTU Finance Control Committee, addressed the meeting and congratulated the Working Women Committee and the Women cadres of the WFTU for the vital and irreplaceable contribution to the International class-oriented trade union movement. Also, they launched a message that the WFTU will consistently remain at the forefront of the struggle for the elimination of all kinds of discrimination and exploitation against the women and the working class in total.
The meeting started with a greeting speech by comrade Anda Anastasaki, Coordinator of the WFTU Headquarters, and thereafter comrade Mathapelo Khanye Grace, Coordinator of the Working Women Committee of the WFTU delivered the keynote speech.
During the second part of the meeting, women trade unionists from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakstan, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Cambodia shared their experiences and enriched the discussion of the meeting. The activity will be repeated.
