Petlas, one of the biggest tire producers in Turkey for Passenger Cars, Light Trucks and Trucks, Off-Highway equipments used in agricultural, industrial, earthmoving / construction vehicles and aircrafts, fired 47 workers last week due to their affiliation to Nakliyat-İş Union.
After the privatisation of the company, the new owner has created a slavery working atmosphere in which the working hours of the workers reach up to 15 hours a day, the workers are always oppressed, threatened and exposed to several intimidation tactics by the employer.
The company fired 47 workers after the workers had started to be affiliated to Nakliyat-İş Union. After the unlawful dismissals, Nakliyat-İş started mobilization together with the participation of the fired workers.
A massive protest was organized on 16 July at Petlas Company with the demand of reinstatement of the dismissed workers and respect for the union rights of employees. Ali Rıza Küçükosmanoğlu, President of Nakliyat-İş and member of Presidential Council of WFTU issued a press statement in the protest action. He stated that the company had been established with the taxes of Turkish Citizens and privatised without regarding the public interest. He also pointed out that the reason lying behind the dismissal of the workers was the union choices of the workers. He finished his speech stating that the mobilization would continue until the reinstatement of the workers.
Birleşik Metal İş Union also showed their class solidarity with dismissed workers and Nakliyat-İş Union by participating the protest action at Petlas Company.
