The World Federation of Trade Unions, gathering in its ranks 105 million workers from the 5 continents, expresses its internationalist solidarity with the workers and people of Mauritius, who have been massively protesting against the devastating oil spills caused from a Japanese boat that was shipwrecked in the waters off the southeast coast of the island in July and against the mishandling of the situation by the responsible authorities.
We greet the workers´ rallies where tens of thousands of Mauritians participate, while at the same time we demand the satisfaction of their urgent demand for all necessary actions to be taken, for the resolution of this ecological disaster of untold damage to life and income of the workers and their families. All responsible parties of this disaster must be held accountable.
