During the days between the 8th. and the 16th. of January 2012 a delegation from the Cuban Workers Trade Union Central (CTC), chaired by Raymundo Navarro Frenandez, member of the National Secretariat and Ernesto Rodriguez Danger an official of the Department of International Relations of that Organization, visited the Arab Republic of Syria with the objective of expressing their utmost solidarity with the workers, people and Trade Union Movement of that country.
According to the statement of CTC during their visit to the Arab country, the delegation developed a broad program which took them nine days, characterized by numerous and fruitful exchanges with workers in their work spots and Trade Union leaders from different levels.
“We the Cubans, who have been subject many times of twisted, ill-intentioned and slanderous media campaigns, aware of the systematic actions of the powerful instruments of the capitalist press, led to produce a change of government in those countries that do not follow the guidelines of Yankee Imperialism and their lackeys, were able to witness that the strategies followed in order to overthrow the Syrian Government are the same that were used in fostering destabilization and discredit against nations whose leaders were not in line with the policies of domination of the superpowers.
But most important was to witness with our own eyes which was the true reality of that country; the awareness of its people and workers and the day-to-day life of men and women. This has nothing to do with the pre-fabricated images portrayed by the great media and constantly presented in internet.
In spite of the tension to which the citizens are subjected due to the recent terrorist’s attacks intended to create chaos and the disintegration of that country, we observed everywhere we went, a balanced and hard working nation that acts with dignity and who, in its vast majority expresses support in favor of the defense of their homeland and their Government. The presence of many youth and women in the streets supporting the changes announced by the government of president Bashar Al Assad even before the crisis broke out corroborates this.
We were also able to prove by the way of the abundant information provided to us by the leadership of the Federation of Syrian Trade Unions, that the main problem hindering the solution of the conflict instigated from abroad, is the lack of political willingness of the United States, the Western Powers and countries of the area.
We are in favor of the idea that the Syrian situation can be resolved by peaceful methodos as the government is trying to do, without foreign interventions, without the encouragement of groups of extremists and outclassed elements who receives money for carrying out actions against innocent civilians.
According to the criteria of leaders of the Federation of Syrian Trade Unions, the armed bandits have changed their tactics once realizing that sabotaging aqueducts, oil pipelines and other productive centers and services, they were not able to find the support of the people in order to act against the Government as they had wished. Incapable of obtaining their objectives they decided to engage in terrorism, exposing their true intention, that was never to claim for reforms in the country, but to serve the spurious interest of the foreign powers that they obey.
The true is that these criminal attempts have caused suffering to the Syrian people. The opinions that we heard in each one of the centers we visited speaks clearly of the above said. In spite of the fact that there might be detractors of the regime – those who disagree, people who rejects the changes – the general perception is that there is an absolute rejection against those who generates chaos and death, as has happened in other countries of the Region.
We are sure that if subversion is not encouraged from abroad and there is a halt to the infiltration of armed groups through the fragile border lines of the country; as well as the adoption by the Arab League of an attitude geared towards real cooperation that might help finding a solution to the problems they face , the Syrian themselves will reach an agreement between the different groups, a solution to which definitely they are entitled.”
