The Workers Association for Protecting Ports organized a huge protest march yesterday, 1 of February, against the coalition government’s privatization of Parts, Terminals and Yards. The thousands of workers participated and protest march started from the main entrance of Colombo Port and marched forward towards the President’s House of Sri Lanka. The protesters wanted to handover a petition to either the President of Sri Lanka or his due representative. But the riot suppressing police blocked the protester who protested peacefully and thereafter attacked using High-pressure water cannons and tear gases.
The protesters urged the bourgeois government to stop the anti-people neo-liberal socio-economic policies and if not ready to go home.
