WFTU Representative, George Pontikos addressed the following speech at the 20th AIUTUC Congress held in Karnataka, India
“On behalf of the General Secretary of the World Federation of Trade Unions, comrade George Mavrikos, I convey to the 20th Congress of the All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC) the warm militant greetings of the 82 million members who are affiliated to the WFTU around the world.”
“Also, I convey to you the warm, comradely greetings of my Organization, PAME, which represents the class-oriented trade union movement in Greece.
Let me thank you for the honor of inviting as to participate in your Congress.
Two are the main elements that characterize the period we live in:
a) The deepening of the deep economic crisis of capitalism in the countries of the European Union (other countries are affected more such as Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy and others less). On the same time the crisis is deepening in the United States of America and in Japan.
b) Secondly, we witness the increasing aggressiveness of imperialism with wars and invasions. Both the USA and the NATO do not hesitate to bring whole populations into bloodbaths to satisfy and serve the interests of the monopolies and the multinational companies.
According to our views, the developments in Syria are part of the imperialist plot for the “Big Middle East”, a plot orchestrated by the NATO, in order to open the road for an imperialist attack against Iran.
The danger for a generalized warfare is obvious.
Those two characteristics are the two sides of the same coin. They reveal the fact that capitalism becomes more aggressive during the crisis. It has nothing more to give and it maintains itself in burden of the people, depriving them every day from more and more goods which are produced with their own sweat and blood, more and more rights and freedoms which were gained with struggles, even their own lives.
In these crucial moments, our responsibility for the present and future of the movement of the working class is great. It is high time for us to fight for the protection of the workers, male and female, in every working place against the full-frontal attack is unleashed against them.
Against this situation, the WFTU, which regains its forces though hard efforts, the WFTU which is ideologically equipped with the experience of the international class-oriented movement, with the international solidarity and action, is contributing all its powers to the reconstruction and revival of the movement of the working class in all the countries of the world.
With self-sacrifice, with courage, with trust to the working class and decisiveness we will continue to fight so that the working class will not bend and it will raise its feast against the economic and moral strike that is attempted by the Capital, the bourgeoisie governments of every colour.
This is a struggle for a way-out of the crisis in benefit not only of the workers but also of the poor peasants, the self-employed and all of those who work and live in the slums of the countries of the world.
This is a struggle for the abolition of the exploitation of men by men.
With this thoughts, allow me to greet your Congress and wish you every success to your works for the e n h a n c e m e n t of the trade union movement of the working class in India.”
LONG LIVE THE WORKING CLASS OF INDIA!
LONG LIVE THE INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY!
LONG LIVE THE WFTU!
